The guest also described hearing "a lot of noise" that sounded like "heavy lifting" or "banging" in Payne's room, leading them to believe that construction work was being carried out. However, the guest soon realized that the commotion was coming from Payne's room, as they witnessed hotel staff members "going in and out" of the room.

The Tragic Aftermath

The guest further recounted that they "heard a really loud, violent scream" shortly after the noise in Payne's room resumed. Moments later, the guest "heard sirens" and realized the gravity of the situation when they "came down the elevator" and saw "the whole street was full of cop cars." Authorities confirmed that Payne had died after 5 p.m. at the hotel, with an employee calling the emergency line to report a guest "under the influence of drugs and alcohol who had destroyed some objects in the room."

Preliminary Autopsy Findings

The preliminary autopsy revealed that Payne died from "polytrauma" and "an internal and external hemorrhage," according to the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor's Office No. 16, temporarily headed by Marcelo Roma. The coroners reported finding 25 injuries "compatible with those caused by falling from a height," and noted that "craniocerebral lesions were adequate enough to cause death, while internal and external hemorrhages in the skull, thorax, abdomen and limbs, they contributed to the mechanism of death."
